This meaningful poem, "Little Girl, Be Careful What You Say", by Carl Sandburg explains the importance of being cautious and careful. What Sandburg was trying to interpret was to be careful when you say things and the things you say... You never know who you could offend...
My interpretation of this poem was that Sandburg had had some previous experience of things being said , meant to hurt people, to either him or someone close to him. Poets/ writers tend to write deep, descriptive poems on personel experience, thats how they get a great poem, they have to mean and be true to themselves.
Sandburg used the statement " be careful, be careless, be careful." which hit me as something quite strange! it basically means - don't do anything careless. But then when you say be careless it practically means- don't be careful, have no cares, be care-less! That's what I thought was a bit-off...
If you actually look at the actual poem you can see the picture. It's of a young girl, With a diary...the Girl seems very guilty. Obviously she has writen something offensive about someone...and has possibly gotten in trouble for her actions. Which ironically brought to me the term, " If you wouldn't say it to their face, then don't say it at all!" I think that that's the message he was trying to put out.
This poem is very well descriptive, and describes a great lesson for anyone to learn from, no matter who you are.
Good-Job Jenna! I can tell that the poem is about the importance of being cautious and careful just by looking at the title of the poem! I agree with Jenna about Sandburg saying something offensive to people before. That is a very good idea. I agree with Jenna about the poem being about the importance of being cautious and careful but, it also might be about learning a lesson in the poem. Good-Job though! :D
